No injuries reported in fire at Oceana building, according to official sources

A fire at a tower on the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai has been extinguished, in what was the latest in a string of high-rise blazes in the UAE.

The fire at the Oceana building broke out on Monday night, local media said, with no injuries reported.

It had been put out by the early hours of Tuesday morning.

“Dubai Civil Defence confirms that a fire at a building on the Palm is completely extinguished,” the Dubai Media Office said in a tweet.

“The building was safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.”

The incident is the latest in a series of fires at high-rise towers in the UAE, amid ongoing concerns over the quality of materials used in some buildings in the country.

In Dubai a major fire hit The Address Downtown hotel on New Year’s Eve, in a blaze police said was caused by an electrical fault.

A UAE-wide series of building inspections was ordered following the incident, in an attempt to ensure fire safety across the country.

Earlier in 2015, a huge fire hit The Torch building in Dubai, which also led to questions being raised over the façade material used.
