Qatar’s government has floated tenders for four construction projects in Gaza, as part of a $254m project to rebuild the war torn strip, the country’s ambassador said on Thursday.

Muhammed al Imadi said that consultants have been hired to submit designs for a city, which will be named after Sheikh Hamad Ben Khalifa al Thani.

The $30m development will include 1,000 residential units in five-storey apartment blocks, schools, clinics, parks and entertainment facilities, a report by Ma’an, the Palestinian News Agency said.

Al Imadi added that invitations were also issued for contractors to bid for a contract to repair three major roads in the enclave.

The 35km coastal highway, known as al-Rashid Street, will cost around $50m to repair, while $18m has been allocated for the reconstruction of the 10km al-Karama Street, he said.
