Eng. Maitha bin Udai, CEO of RTA Traffic & Roads Agency has stressed that the human element is critical to ensuring traffic safety, adding awareness is required to promote best driving practices in the city.

“As human errors account for about 85% of traffic accidents, concerted efforts of all public and private institutions are needed to raise the awareness of road users, particularly drivers of trucks and buses,” Eng. Udai said.

“All procedures and engineering projects will not be enough to stop traffic accidents and ensuing deaths unless all motorists and road users adhere to safety rules and avoid the traffic accident triggers.”

Eng. Udai’s comments come in light of the recently launched truck parking facility on Dubai’s Emirates Road; the rest room is the first of the transport authority’s 24 such planned, across the Emirates Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road in Dubai. “Each truck stop is capable of accommodating 30 trucks with the aim of providing a venue for parking trucks in a safe manner before the onset of the trucks prohibited movement timing,” Eng. Udai said.
