Habtoor Leighton Group bags $60m road contract in Qatar

Work on the Azizya East project is scheduled for completion in November 2015

Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) has been awarded an AED220 million ($59.9 million) road project in Qatar, the UAE-based contractor announced.

The Azizya East project, located about 9km west of central Doha, involves construction and improvement works as part of the local roads and drainage programme.

Operating as Leighton Contracting Qatar WLL, HLG will provide infrastructure, roads, utilities and drainage for 740 residential plots spanning 72 hectares, with an internal network of roads ranging in corridor widths from 16-32m.

The length of the proposed road network will be around 13.5km. Work on the project is scheduled for completion in November this year.

The Azizya East project is proof of HLG’s strong presence in Qatar and its work with government entities like Ashgal, Qatar’s Public Works Authority, said José Antonio López-Monís, HLG CEO and managing director.
