Repair works underway after incident in Riyadh region

A Caterpillar excavator being transported by truck has hit a pedestrian bridge in Saudi Arabia, according to the state news agency SPA.

Pictures show the footbridge badly damaged after the incident on Thursday on the road to Al-Hair, in the Riyadh region of the kingdom.

The bridge, which had a height restriction of 5.5 metres, was apparently struck from below by the arm of the Cat excavator.

It was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured. Repair works are underway, according to the SPA.
