Nakheel has awarded a contract worth AED 4million ($1m) for work on a sewage treatment plant (STP) at Deira Islands in Dubai, according to a statement from the UAE-based developer.
Austria-based ILF Consulting Engineers won the contract for the design and construction supervision of the STP and lifting station, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
The STP will be developed in two stages. Stage 1 will spread over 2017 to 2022 where the STP will be designed to handle 20,000 cubic meters per day. The second phase between 2022 and 2042 will have 17,000 cubic metres daily capacity added to it.
Nakheel has already awarded more than AED3 billion worth of contracts for Deira Islands, which is spread across 15.3 square kilometres. These include deals related to the infrastructure, coastal work and construction of the Deira Islands Night Souk.
