Dubai’s DP World signs Canada port deal

Dubai ports operator strikes deal for the expansion and operation of Canada’s Rodney Container Terminal

The Dubai-based ports operator DP World has struck a deal to expand and operate Canada’s Rodney Container Terminal, according to press reports.

The company, one of the world’s biggest port operators, signed a long-term lease agreement and will start running existing operations on January 1 2017, Reuters reported.

DP World will reportedly work in partnership with the port authority of Saint John, New Brunswick, on the expansion programme. Works are expected to be completed in 2021, with the lease continuing for 30 years after, it was reported.

The announcement comes just days after DP World said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the state-run Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) to develop Kaohsiung Port’s Terminal 7.
