Cowi in talks to design Iraq’s Expressway 2

Expressway to form part of a new ‘Silk Road’ which will link Europe and the Far East through Iraq

The Iraqi government is in talks with a Danish engineering consultancy firm for the contract to design a 900km highway that will link Basra with the Syrian and Turkish borders, Meed has reported.

The discussions with the Copenhagen-headquartered Cowi are focussed on designing the road project, officially known as Expressway 2, Minister Mohammed al-Darraj, said.

The expressway will form part of a new ‘Silk Road’, which will link Europe and the Far East through Iraq, the minister said. The highway also forms parts of Iraq’s plans to spend $5.8bn over the next three years to build new roads and bridges across the country.
