The Governor of the Holy City of Makkah, Prince Khaled Al-Faisal has said construction of the long-term flood solution projects in Jeddah is progressing on schedule and will be completed by late 2013.
The Saudi government had awarded the contracts worth a total of $901.7m to two local and two international companies for the projects in March this year, and since then, 3.3 million work hours have been spent within 110 days, according to Ahmad Al-Sulaim, director general of the Drainage Department at Makkah Governorate.
Snamprogetti Saudi Arabia Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Italy’s Saipem, has won the biggest contract, valued at $350.8m, to build a rainwater drainage system for the new Jeddah airport. 
Nesma Company won a contract worth $213.6m to build four dams in Wadi Ghaya, Wadi Um Hablain, Wadi Daghbaj, and Wadi Briman and another contract worth $99m to build a dam in Wadi Ghalil and renovate the southern floodwater path.
China Communications Construction Company was awarded a $38mcontract to renovate the northern floodwater path.
The fourth deal, worth around $200m, was awarded to Saudi Pan Kingdom for Trade, Industry and Contracting (SAPAC) for the renovation of the eastern floodwater path.
