The UAE’s Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF) has unveiled plans to build the country’s first eco-friendly mosque in Dubai.
To be located near the Al Rowad village adjacent to the Clock Tower Roundabout in Deira, the $6.8m mosque is expected to reduce energy and water consumption by 15-19% and will be completed by the end of 2013.
The 4,180 m2 mosque will feature green spaces, particularly gardens on the roof for heat insulation, as well as green building technologies such as solar panels to heat water for ablution and the Imam’s house, and recycle plants to treat water used in ablution for gardening and washroom purposes.
