Alpin Limited has been named as the design phase commissioning authority for the 2020 World Expo, which will take place in Dubai, it has been confirmed.
In a statement, the firm said that it would lead the commissioning process throughout the development cycle. This would involve driving a quality-focused process for enhancing the delivery of a project, it explained.
It is estimated that Expo 2020 Dubai will bring together more than 180 nations, and attract 25 million visitors, across a six-month period. The event will be built around an overall theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, as well as three sub-themes – Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability.
Alpin’s primary objective will be to work with the organisers to integrate these three sub-themes into the urban design, construction, operation and legacy of the site, while also ensuring commissionability of the assets and the efficient use of resources, it said.
The design will be inspired by the Middle East environment, with elements of the country’s cultural and architectural history included. The development also aims to become a reference point for sustainability, especially for future World Expo sites. It intends to do this by meeting the guidelines of the US Green Building Council requirements and local standards, the company added.
“Expo 2020 Dubai aims to excel in technological innovation and showcase Smart City initiatives that provide both an interactive and educational experience for visitors and participants — a project that Alpin are proud to be a part of,” the statement said.
Alpin’s consultants have previously worked on a number of high-profile and large scale projects, such as Msheireb Heart of Doha, the Abu Dhabi Airport’s Midfield Terminal and the Doha Metro.
The firm added that it ‘understands the importance of safety in the delivery and operation of the Expo 2020 Dubai site and has taken steps to ensure that these standards are met’.
Following the World Expo, the physical site of the Expo 2020 Dubai will transform into a mixed-use community comprising:
* Convention and Exhibition Centre (CoEx) expanded
* Specialist Education Center
* Techno parks for research and development
* Commercial offices
* Retail mall
* Residential developments
* Public realm
* Permanent resident population
