Cowi bags Iraqi highway contract

Danish firm to carry out preliminary design work and investigate possible alignment for highway from Baghdad to Turkey

The State Corporation for Roads & Bridges, part of the Iraqi Ministry for Construction & Housing, has awarded Danish engineering consultancy Cowi the contract to design an Iraqi highway running from Baghdad to the Turkish border.

The project involves a section of road nearly 700km in length, with access roads to six regional cities. Under the agreement, Cowi will carry out preliminary design work for the next 20 weeks and investigate possible alignment for a six-lane highway from Baghdad to Turkey, also called Expressway No 2 – or just E2.

After the approval phase, which would take three to six months, Copenhagen-headquartered Cowi will start on aerial mapping and producing maps of the highway alignment.
