Oman awards contracts for housing projects

Local firms to survey and design housing units and existing properties
Oman has appointed two local firms to carry out surveys and design work for both new housing and existing projects.

Oman’s Ministry of Housing has awarded contracts to local construction firms for projects in the North Al Batinah governorate, it was announced on Thursday.

According to a Times of Oman report, the first contract went to Al Midad Al Ilmi Office for Engineering Consultancy for surveying existing buildings and evaluation of property near the Port of Sohar.

The second contract was signed with Consultants Engineers (AW and Associates) for the preparation of a detailed study and design of housing units, roads and infrastructure works in Liwa, the ministry said.

Oman’s activity in project spending has continued to be strong, with the Tender Board allocating more than $3.1bn till the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2012, experts have said.

The country currently has road and bridge projects worth more than $7bn underway, a planned rail project of more than $5.19bn, as well as several ports and airports.
