Abu Dhabi Executive Council approves framework for district cooling

Regulations for district cooling and district cooling applicability have been approved by the Abu Dhabi Executive Council. The step makes the UAE capital the first in the MENA region to pass an integrated regulatory framework for district cooling, a report from WAM said.

The regulations aim to improve efficiency in the energy sector and promote sustainable systems and infrastructure. The approval of district cooling regulations is said to cement the UAE capital’s position as a local and global energy leader, focused on infrastructure development, energy efficiency and sustainability.

According to the report, the Department of Energy is tasked with implementing the new regulations and will work with government entities and stakeholders in the sector to ensure compliance and desired results, the council stated.

Goals going forward include enhancing service quality, competitiveness, protecting consumer rights and educating the public about the importance of reducing energy consumption and sustaining the environment.
