Construction of the Net-Zero Energy Residential Test Facility (NZERTF)

Construction of the Net-Zero Energy Residential Test Facility (NZERTF on the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) campus in Gaithersburg, MD was completed in July, 2012 after the ground-breaking sixteen months ago.

Following a one year demonstration period under simulated occupancy to prove that the house generates as much energy as is consumed, this facility, operated by the Energy and Environment Division in the Engineering Laboratory, will allow researchers to test various high-efficiency and alternative energy systems, materials, and designs.
