Qatar Railways Company has awarded $5.9 billion of construction contracts to build the 216km Doha Metro line, which will link Doha’s city centre with many of the World Cup stadiums.
Contracts worth $2.19 billion to build underground sections of the 12km long Red Line South between the city centre and the airport have been awarded to a consortium of QDVC, a firm owned by Qatari Diar, a sovereign wealth fund; Vinci, a French construction firm; South Korean owned GS Engineering and Construction and Darwish Engineering, a local company.
A second $2.19 billion contract to build a 15km long underground stretch of the Green Line, which will run north-south through the city, has also been awarded, Al Sharq, a local newspaper, said. 
A consortium consisting of the Austrian company Porr; Saudi Binladin Group and HBK Contracting Company, a local firm, have won the rights for that project.
A further $1.09 billion contract to build stations at Msheireb and Education City was also awarded. South Korea’s Samsung C&T, OHL, a Spanish construction firm and local builder and Qatar Building Company was the winning consortium for these projects.
