Caterpillar’s CEO Doug Oberhelman says that he is humbled by his company’s role in providing emergency power to the Burj Khalifa.

Returning to the US after meeting representatives from Cat’s Middle East customers and dealers, he revealed that he visited the back-up power system it provided for the world’s tallest building.

“It’s humbling to know that in the event of an emergency or blackout,” Oberhelman to the Peoria Journal Star newspaper.

“To be standing on the 144th floor of that building, more than 2,500 feet above the ground, and to imagine one of our generator sets running the service elevators and support the construction projects is simply incredible,” he added. “Over the decades, Cat machines and engines have played a role in some of the most historic projects and developments around the world, and we can add this one to the list.”
