Japanese machinery giant Komatsu is to slash production by 30-40% in Japan as it moves to become more profitable.

In a report last month with the Nikkei business daily, the manufacturer said that instead of increasing capacity it will invest up to $607 million in next generation technology.

Komatsu will  will reduce  its range by 20% by 2015 but will upgrade four plants, improving “production lines, updating facilities and increasing outsourcing”.
