More than 100 people are reported to have been killed following the collapse of a crane in Mecca’s Grand Mosque.
Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence confirmed the deadly incident via its official Twitter account and said that at least 30 people have been injured.
Unconfirmed reports said that the death toll could be as high as 107 people, with 80 injured. 
Several users uploaded videos and images of bad weather conditions in the Holy City, which could have caused the deadly incident.
The annual hajj pilgrimage is due to take place later this month, with millions of Muslims from around the world coming to Mecca, which is home to the Kaaba, Islam’s holiest site.
Last year, Saudi Arabian authorities reduced the number of pilgrims allowed to perform hajj amid ongoing construction work taking place to enlarge the Grand Mosque.
