AHEC to build contingency water reservoirs around Muscat

$83.2m project will be overseen by Public Authority for Electricity and Water

The Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) in Oman signed a multi-million agreement with Al Hassan Engineering Company (AHEC) to launch the first phase in constructing emergency water storage reservoirs across Muscat.

The $83.2m project, which will be overseen by PAEW, involves developing a network of emergency storage reservoirs in strategic locations throughout the capital city, to be deployed should a supply crisis or technical emergency occur in the city’s water system.

This scheme was set in place following 2007’s June weather incident, following a cyclone that has badly disrupted life in the city, as water pumping systems failed to provide water to the city.

The system will provide resources in case city desalination plants at Ghubrah and Barka witness any disruptions, or technical alterations.
