The government of Japan has presented a $7m grant to help the Jordanian government build a modern museum showcasing the antiquities of the Nabataean city of Petra.
Under the agreement between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Petra Development and Tourism Regional Authority (PDTRA), the Japanese government will fund the construction of a museum for antiquities outside the Petra Archaeological Park.
The museum is part of efforts aimed at encouraging tourists spend more time in the ancient city, which is one of the New Seven World Wonders. 
The PDTRA did not disclose details on the new project, but said the museum will be built according to the latest international standards.
